Around 2 weeks back Anil asked me - " Indian ocean - what do you know about it ?" Without stopping whatever i was doing then, i casually said "Its Indian Band" - Anil was all surprised ! He said he was expecting that i would say Its Indian Ocean - Hind Mahasagar :D We both laughed and yes even i surprised myself with the answer ... I think i had heard about this band in the year 1995 or 97 and i think i had bought their one album also then, but would have hardly heard 2 times .. I was not rock or metallic fan but thanks to Danny (My brothers)music collection and great taste of music - i did listen to occasional Def Leopard, Michael learns to rock and did enjoy that music – and thanks to my Dads collection of Abbas, BoneyMs ,Carpenters still love those 70s – 80s music .. During my college days I was more into Jagjit Singh , Hariharan, instrumentals and occasional All 4 one, Shania Twain, Prem Joshua, and I guess during that time bought Indian Ocean also and morning before going to college – Vivdh Bharati FM :)

Vasant Habba 1999 |
1998 moved to Bangalore, one of the first few things I bought after moving to house in Bangalore was a 2-in-1 (and I still have it :)) got all my cassettes collection from Kerala and added few more Norah Jones, Enya, Acapella – and in Bangalore got to see lot of performances – Vasant Habba 1999 Feb was first festival which I saw in Bangalore and it was one great experience –I had gone with my Cousin Suma , Anil and at the venue met another 5-6 friends from Wipro - its Dusk to Dawn Dance and Music Fest – that year got to see almost all the best performers of the country , Pandit Chaurasia, shiv shankar , L subramaniam, Viishwa Mohan Bhatt, Shubba mudgal, Balsubramanian, Pandit Jasraj, in dancers Mahapatra, Shobha, Raja radha reddy, Daksha Seth, to name some …. I had never got such an opportunity to see all the top artist of the country in one place – Protima – Gauri expired in 98 and all the performers came to give their tributes to Protima …. … I went again for this fest in 2000 just for few hours and came back … And I don’t think after 99 they ever had so many top performers coming for Vasant Habba …
My next big experience was seeing Deep Purple Concert – their first time in Bangalore in 2001 … had gone there with few of colleagues and friends – this happened in Palace Grounds … what a crowd and what an experience … and reaching back home was nightmare, the traffic block after the concert was just too much – so with this concert didn’t try going for any other concerts which kept happening in Bangalore – then used to go for once in a while in Cowdiah memorial hall, Tata hall in IISC to see some performances .. but frequency was maybe once or twice a year .. then there was another new initiative Bangalore Habba it hink in 2002 – which didn’t interest me much … and then in 2006 End we moved to Trivandrum -

October fest - Jazz performance in Tvm |
One of the good things in Trivandrum – Nishagandhi Amphitheatre – there is something about Nishagandhi – not too bog not too small , very much at the city center still quite and peaceful - and in the month of January , 1 week long Nishagandhi Fest – must say 2007 program list and performances were great – other than this fest most of the Rock Pop events happen here , and most of the time its free :) Happen to see Bob Geldof - Sting concert , some of the bands from UK, france, Germany, and just last weekend Performer from Israel and Indian Ocean, the experience was just amazing … both Esther and Ezekiel enjoyed the music , Eze slept after 1.5 hours but Esther was all enthu , She not only loves the performances Israeli/French/Russian/german performance but is also Curious to know more about the instruments, country, language they speak and performers – and for the Indian ocean – though I had my doubts if we will have to leave soon if she (and eze) did not like …. she was also standing in crowd and moving with the crowd and Ezekiel was clapping and was too curios to see what was happening on the stage and sky (all the colorful lights) before he slept off by 9 pm and we decided to go back home …. I humming “ Arey ruk Ja, arey thum ja " …. :)
