Snap taken before Christmas carol program :) |
Few days back went to see Esther’s dance performance with her vacation class friends , Esther told me that make up will be done by the teachers there so I don’t have to be there for getting her ready , when her groups program started , was little surprised to see that all the girls were decked up with heavy make up ( I was not too happy to see the makeup though) where as the boys just came in there casual jeans and Ts no make up or frills and went about the performance … in fact girls as small as 4-5 yrs old were also wearing dark glossy lipstick, eye shadow, blush and pretty heavy jewellery, little girls trying not to touch their lips so that the lipstick remains intact and one of them not even ready to drink water ! :)
Of late I have been unconsciously observing the trends in Style and Looking good factor. Sometime back we had School festival in Kerala and one of the concerns/comments by the judges was on the Makeup children wear for the performances, not just solo but the group performances also. The make actuallu looks so ‘made up’ and out of place 1 .. … So true, look around guys or girls everybody so conscious about looking good … some straighten their hair, some curl, some wear heavy make up and some streak their hair, most of us are brand conscious , see the number of Malls and branded shops around – 80% of any Mall in any city will be occupied by Clothes/accessories shops .. See the number of beauty product (specially fairness and look young creams) , everybody wants to look glamorous .. look at the Cannes festival Red carpet walks and the fwds you get of Vidya Balan look, Aishwarya / Mallika / Sonam /Freda … all look so perfect and beautiful … or look at the profile photos Its more about making style statement … people want to look wow and get noticed …. being health conscious is one thing and being just beauty conscious is another Wonder why is it necessary to look beautiful ? Are we not good the way we are, I mean what is definition of Beautiful – what is beautiful to one might be not so beautiful for the other, why is it becoming difficult to accept the way we are , the way we look, - No am not against make up or doing things to look good, but being too conscious about how you look, and taking too much of effort (and spending too much) on being beautiful and judging others how good or bad one looks/smell and completely ignoring the other qualities of the person is sad …
Looking at a picture of Peacock in the Newspaper today Esther commented , ‘Almost same size peacock is there in the Trivandrum Zoo. When she lifts her tail and wings she looks so beautiful’ , I smiled at her and corrected its not ‘She’ its ‘He’ peacock. She peacocks are not as beautiful as He and She peococks don’t have colourful long tail/feathers – She was surprised , then I said look around if you see birds carefully, Cuckoo,Sparrow,Parrot, Peacock the He birds in most of the species have more colourful and beautiful feathers/tails/beak/eyes than She birds – Esther was so surprised and made a very innocent comment – ‘ I thought She are suppose to be more beautiful !
