Every Little Help …

Esther started going to school in her cycle this year . Everyday I tell her go safe. Quite a few people were surprised when they saw I was sending Esther to school all by herself . Initial first week I watched her from behind till she reached school and went again in the afternoon (pretty heavy traffic) to see if she was able to manage. After a week she told me mornings she is comfortable going alone, afternoon she would want me come and watch till she gets little more confidence. So after 2 more days of following her I told her that she is ok and can manage by herself .

Everyday Esther has something to tell about her cycling to school – ‘Mummy today my classmates saw me cycling and they were surprised ‘ ‘Today my teacher asked if it was my cycle’ ‘today senior boys who come in cycle asked me in which class I study – when I told them Class V they were surprised’ ‘ Mummy today security uncle was the old nice uncle he stopped traffic for me to cross the main gate’ ‘ Mummy today the security uncle was the a new uncle – he was rude and keep telling me to go fast when I waited to cross the road – I don’t like him’ – Every time I told her not to bother much after few days nobody will ask or say anything.

Today she came back on her own and when I asked how was cycling back – she was all excited. She said that today when she stopped to cross the road at the main gate , it was the security uncle whom she does not like , but today he was ok, while she waited to cross, there was one Police uncle behind her, he asked her if she was waiting to cross the road, when she said yes, he held her on her shoulders stopped the traffic and walked with her to cross the road. She was so excited, and then she asked me ‘Police are serious big people right, I am just a small girl, how come he took his time to make me cross the road? Do they do such small things also ?’ She said she told him ‘Thankyou’ but not sure if he heard it. I told her, anybody who feels responsible when sees a small girl like you waiting to cross or needs any other help would do the same , and Police is suppose to help people in all small possible ways, its part of their duty – but she was super thrilled to be helped by a Policeman. I am sure in her head she has got a beautiful picture of people in Police uniform. Every little helps ….
