Reading one of the articles whose author is probably a observer from outside India was supporting in the intolerance by Indian as some sort of 'Hitting Back' on the atrocities Indian 'Hindus' have suffered silently for centuries in the hands of foreign rulers and invaders ...
My view point --
I always felt that I am an INDIAN first , then South Indian, then from Kerala, Then Christian , Then Catholic it was not in Reverse order .... The what so ever 'hitting back' is happening, is happening on the Indians only, Indians who have been living in this country through generations for centuries , who had been Hindu or Tribals or just Nomads at some point of evolution and who got converted forcefully or by choice to muslims, christians, buddhists, communists, atheists , and all of them still have the choice of converting or practicing faith of their choice (i believe it was possible till recent time , though there were always some controversies associated with conversions even if its by choice, and these days its matter of convenience, converting to what gives you better benefits of reservation & ration card ) . It is not happening against say the countries whose rulers invaded us and exploited us . ..
Also lets not forget that in India we have so much of social discrimination in the name of caste and sub castes that even if you are a Hindu, discrimination within the community because of caste ism is not something we are too proud of , and lot of conversions happened because of this discrimination in the Indian social setup , but alas even converting to Christianity, Muslim, Buddhism did not help much , the same dna of caste and social hierarchy does not change even if you change religion in this country so people were/are still discriminated ... I used to believe that education will be answer to all this inequality ... though it has helped a lot , but surprisingly lot of educated people are the firm believers of race/ religion /caste ... ..
At times i feel Indian are so used to racism and discrimination by their own fellow countrymen that living in any other country will be much easier and probably will give better social status ... It is easier to be a foreigner and comment and sympathize with history of India and Hinduism , for being apologetic how foreigners have conquered and exploited this country for centuries ... but I don't believe that whatever is happening in India is only because of that feeling .... I don't agree that today people (Indians) who have been practicing different religion or faith or food habit or have different viewpoint than Hindus should feeling apologetic and accept whatever Hindu Right wing people say or do .... We all are Indian, we all have same constitutional rights, what I eat , how I pray is my personal choice , as long as I am not going to someone else house and forcing things on them , I don't see any reason why I should stop eating particular food or wear /not wear particular dress etc ...
Our is a developing country, in states like Kerala Goa the main (and only ) industry Tourism survives on the tourists who come from all over the world, though I agree that local sentiments should be respected , but at the same time Locals should also be open minded enough to understand that people come from very different backgrounds and culture .. ................... We are not Saudi Arabia, we are India we always had lot of tolerance and adaptability, that's why we Indian are there in any part of the world and we survive . .if we have to compare our achievements and cultural values, let it be against developed and stable countries ....
