Flowers ...

After long time I got some fresh flowers – courtesy one of my friend in hospitality team who had arranged some flowers for our clients . Saw some of them lying in the boardroom , I asked Mohini – can I take one of the bouquet – she said of course – it was bunch of Yellow and Red roses with a little bit of greens --- lovely bouquet … Esther was excited to see the flowers , I took out one of my fav terracotta Vase , had not taken it for more than 6 yrs , Esther cleaned it filled in water , I arranged the flower …. Childhood days in Tenga Valley, remember having small garden , where dad used to maintain all seasonal flowering plants , hedge of Chrysanthemum white and pink ,Asters ,Dalia, Gladiolas, Hollyhocks, Phlox all different colors , Everlasting flowers – so many colors and shades , wild orchids … and during winter , the apple tree blossoms :). Must say I was lucky to have got a childhood like that and I guess its here my love for flowers , or having flowers around began …

Anil with flowers to be sent
I still remember the first time I got flowers – It was late 1998 when Anil gave me flowers , bunch of yellow roses – Anil along with my cousin Suma had gone to KR market early morning that day – they had to send baskets of flowers to Kerala by evening bus … after parceling the flowers some flowers they had kept and Anil gave me some of those flowers .. I was staying in a Paying Guest accommodation and when I returned to my room – most of the girls started screaming seeing the flowers .. from where did you get those flowers !! :) I didn’t know then that getting flowers was so special :) . One of the reasons I loved Bangalore was availability of flowers and that to affordable rates .. think it used to be 12-15/- for bunch of 10-15 roses -- or bunch of Carnations or Gerbera .. Calla Lily – which we used to call Hasina flower ( Leslie Lewis Haseena song) -- :) Let me confess I used to buy flowers for myself when I felt lonely … and I used to keep flowers next to my bunker bed and frankly felt happy to see those flowers when I got up .. flowers smiling at me … telling me am not alone , and the day is going to be good … Every Sunday I used to go for the early Sunday service at Infant Jesus church (Vivek Nagar) and after the service I would buy flowers for 10/- max 20 /- and I would get bunches of Aster, daisies, sometime carnations … and walk back to my room around 1.5 km .. and then give to my hostess , some of my roommates and some for my cousin .. and I could see people feeling good … so much so that if I missed getting flowers any Sunday , people would ask what happened … I used to make a point of going with some flowers visiting any friends place , I would buy some flowers and arrange it in bunch – never spent too much on readymade bouquets , and I remember my Doctor Dr. Annamma almost had tears in her eyes when I gave her a bunch of Orchid Flower as a thank you note after Esther happened.

I came to know about different flowers , what was relevance of each flower, which color flower resembles what, which color for what occasion but frankly for me all that was irrelevant, any flower any day meant a good day .. things started changing, flowers became expensive , and my buying flowers kamm hota gaya :) and after coming to Trivandrum .. hardly got to see any flowers … last year November bought flowers first time in Trivandrum– bunch of Gerbera ( Happiness and cheerfulness) , it was one of my friends house warming :) and after that it was today that I got my hands on some Roses – guess something good is happening :)
