Humility ...

Last couple of days have been humbling experience interacting with people who have very simple approach about most of the things in their life, who are grounded to their roots and reality. During the interaction I realized that one thing common about them was that they come from a modest family background where they did not get things easily and now when they are doing good in life , they still are grounded to the realities , and they seem to be so satisfied with what they have and what they are doing .

“...talent means nothing, while experience, acquired in humility and with hard work, means everything.”  - Patrick Suskind.  This is so true for the people I met few days back. By general definition/norms they don’t have any special talent, they are not very highly qualified (some of them have not done their graduation), they are not loud, or street smart, but their experience , their sincerity , humility shows everything they are ….

Almost 14 years in corporate world, and all I have been seeing around is how to show one’s superiority over other – compare qualification, compare experience , compare organizations one has worked with, compare technologies one has worked with, compare the figures one has achieved , or the clients one has worked with , or places where one has worked , or the contacts one has personal or professional . … and people work day in and out to prove their worth in the organization , to prove that why they deserve certain things better than the others, and corporate also make this as the basis to give promotions or hike  (yea appraisals :) ) where we are made to believe that only if we blow our own trumpet , we will be heard first and then considered for any change/growth … .. and we all play this game  of rat race never realizing that  -  “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”   Ernest Hemingway

This is exactly what I realized talking to those humble souls – everyday they are trying to be better selves by doing and giving best in what they do without blowing trumpet, without showing any pride  …… And am sure they will do good in their lives :)
