Do you have Kochu Achen’s number?’ asked Anil after receiving a call.
Kochu Achen (Our children’s Sunday school priest) should be there in the
Sunday school group I replied and asked what happened , who needs the number ? Anil
explained that the call was from one of his students Anna, who called from
RCC(Regional Cancer Centre) and that one of the patient , known to her is
getting discharged as nothing more can be done for treatment , and probably
that patient might not be able to make back to home at Kollam (about 70 kms
from Trivandrum) so he wants to see a priest if possible.
Though not too sure if Achen would be available we thought of calling
him.We got the number from the Sunday school group and Anil called Achen who
immediately agreed, We gave his contact details to Anna. After an hour or so
Anna called up to say that Achen has arrived in the hospital. It was then she gae
details of the patient. Last week Anna had got a message in her office that
B+ve blood is required for one of her colleague’s relative. By the time she
reached RCC it seems someone else had donated the required blood, but there was
another requirement for same blood group and if interested she could donate.
She anyway had come to donate so she said yes she would donate. There she met 16 yr old girl for whom blood was required. It was this patient who was getting
discharged. She wanted to visit church and talk to a priest, since they have come
from Kollam they don’t know where is the nearest Orthodox church to see a
priest, it was then that Anna thought of calling Anil …. I was in tears, 16 yr old …. RCC, no further treatment, discharged, wanting to talk to priest …. Her parents …. Their thoughts, turmoil … and why children God , why ….
And then I thought at the scheme of things , the way it happened –
Anil’s Student , who went to donate blood at RCC for someone, ended up giving blood to a child, who was
getting discharge, wanted to talk to a priest, student calling Anil , who
called Achen ,and then we getting to know that it was for a 16yr old … and once again realizing
Live Simply. Love Generously. Care Deeply. Speak Kindly. Leave the Rest
to God.’
