We moved to our current locality around 10 months back when my delivery date was almost around, we had a very quick house warming (seeing all rahu ,ketus and shubh mahoorat) just a week before my delivery, so did not invite anybody (friends, relative or neighbours) just us and priest. after Ezekiel’s birth we moved in slowly. Within few days Hameeda our immediate neighbour came and helped us tying... cloth swing for Ezekiel (guess some days he got little too restless) introduced us to milk wali, kaam wali ... almost for 2 months we did not know our other neighbours and nobody came to meet us too , and then we decided to check out, but then which house to go ? we then came to know of Mr Chandy who also happens to be member of the church we go to – We went around 7:30pm and the gate was locked , we still thought of ringing the bell at the gate , Mr Chandy in his late 70s came out , asked who we were – we said “your new neighbour, same church members” , (seeing us with a Ezekiel and Esther I guess he sensed we were safe people to deal ) he got the key and Mrs chandy also joined . It was not difficult to start the conversation, we introduced ourselves and gave our background (of being Non resident mallus) and realized they were also NRM from Kolkata ! We could connect to 1-2 common friends , and then 9 :00 pm we were still talking !! During the conversation, Molly aunty took us around her Laurie Baker house (very cozy and warm and neatly kept) she told us they have 3 children all away, showed her talented daughter in law’s painting, her granddaughter’s snap . and gave me a collection of her poems … saying for the past almost 20 yrs in the locality , not many had spent time talking with/visiting them .. … people don’t have time to talk here … and we realized it was difficult to say goodbye – for they had so much to talk – we promised we will come again … and I thought how lonely we are in this crowd , how busy we are in our lives … ….
Few lines from Molly Aunty’s Poem - Beautiful World
The world is beautiful place,
When people are friendly and smile
No illness or ill can mar our peace
When we see good, hear it and speak it …..
