Thomas Uncle

It is Thomas uncle's 76th bday today - after church we plan to visit him ... Thomas uncle very interesting person ... and it was actually very unusal way we got to know him .... 3 years back we thought of buying a 2 wheeler ... when went to show rooms of Honda and Suzuki we were told that waiting period is of 2- 3 months .. we decide we will go for seconf hand scooter .. it was then we saw an ad in newspaper .. Anil call up and went to see the scooter -- well the deal was fixed -- didnt have much scope of bargaining .. the owner had maintained the vehicle really well --- when we went tos ee the scooter we also saw what all tools and things he had mainitained to maintain his vehicle (both 2 wheeler and 4 wheeler ) -- and he was very clear and sort of possessive about his things .. a tough nut is what i thought of Retired Captain Thomas 70+ year old :).

And our relationship with him started from there .. .Thomas Aunty his wife -- very sweet lady was a complete contrast -- if uncle is loud , talkative, energetic , rash -- aunty is sweet, graceful, composed. patient and loving .. perfect balance ... as the time passed we started visiting them regularly .. their children are in US and Canada , and Uncle's relatives and ancestral house is nearby .. there is something about this couple which made me feel t ease with them from day 1 .. uncle has so much of energy,that you look at him and you will think he is may be in his late 50s or early 60's so much full of life and energy ... it was instant connect with uncle and aunty ... and i guess for me it was as comfortable as being at my own home, can speak anything , laugh on silly things pass comments on uncle's stands and views -- infact topics which i usually wont take up in front of my inlaws and maybe my parents we could discuss with them .. Esther also got comfortable with them -- for her Appachen - Thomas uncle calls her "Esther Williams" :)

In couple of visits we came to know his younger brother , his Niece and her family, his friends , one of them happen to know my Dad also and our circle of common friends increased by 1-2 .. We would go there for half an hour 45 mins , and end up spending 2-3 hours laughing out on Uncle abusing the system, people - aunty closing her ears -- though little eccentric at times , uncle and his view points stands correct at its place ... last year he sold his beautiful 2 storied house which he had built in early 80's -- its beautiful house i would have bought it , but for it's value and our budget ... infact he told us first about his plans of selling the house .. it had lovely sit out -- uncle had spread Passion Fruit creeper on wired frame it looks gorgeous and when the fruits hang yellow red it looks awesome .. , he had yellow flowering creeper in his balcony next to bedroom -- first floor -- aunty had kept the house beautifully her taste in every small small things .. she had some or other games for Esther who was 4 yrs old when we first met them ... but after 25 yrs Uncle wanted to move to his ancestral  property not so far from this house and wanted to build a new one .. All of us Aunty ,his Children, Anil, me discouraged him telling at this age why he wants to take unnecessary tension of building house shifting and all that ... but thomas uncle ne ek baar kuch decide kar liya toh kar liya ... hats off to his determination his 6 months house building plan got over in 8-9 months .. another lovely house ... We went for the house warming last yr when i was pregnant with Eze 8th months .. met his cousins , brother sisters our common friends .....



Have been visiting their new house also very regularly -- this time when we went the terrace was full of seasonal flowers ... he was working on a stand -- stool like stand to stand up for cleaning his new car ... by the way he changes his car every 3-4 yrs and 2 wheeler every 2 years -- in 3 yrs he has changed 3 two wheelers and 2 cars :) ek dam mast uncle ... On his bday today we visited him after sunday church service , reached there around 12:30 pm .. uncles looked at me and said -- you are looking beautiful in saree and i said ofcourse i had look good its your b'day ! it was nice to see him with his elder sister who is 82 yrs old and neice and her husband ,,, we spoke about life in north east -- his 82 yr sister is travelling to Imphal in couple of days to meet her children -- they too in defence services ...  we had 1 hour of good laughing session with all of them -- he and his Pakka Hindi Gaalis :) -- so much to learn on how to enjoy life the way he does :) wishing him many more birthday ,we left the house smiling ... :) ...
